Might be of interest, especially if we get a UK-wide "Report it" week going as suggested earlier.
As you will see in the brand new edition of London Cyclist (news feature pages 8-9), the LCC now has a Policing & Enforcement Working Group (PEWG). Its ambit includes:
- Enforcement and scope of moving traffic offences - Enforcement and scope of waiting and loading restrictions - Education to 'share the road', e.g. giving cyclists space not squeezing them or cutting them up - Punishments, penalties and alternatives to them for road traffic offenders - Reducing cycle theft, including that of bike parts - Personal safety of those cycling, particularly along back street and green/blue corridor quiet routes - Dealing with anti-social cycling
happy wheels

Miak 30 Mar 2004 That last point is very wide and open to interpretation

michaelthehibby 30 Mar 2004 If we could report car drivers to the police in the same way as we log rants here, I'd be all for it. Car drivers could be on a '3 strikes' and you get a visit/point on your license deal.
Dealing with anti-social cycling is a key way to make the roads safer for the rest of us (and the pavements safer for future generations), because it is the best way to tackle driver prejudice.

oscar 02 Apr 2004 I agree that anti-social cycling is a catch-all phrase. I suspect it is a sop to the angry buffer brigade who go into paroxysms of fury at the sight of a pair of lycra shorts and accuse ALL cyclists of ALWAYS careering down the pavement at top speed. There is a tension (to my mind) between observing the rules of the road, and acting to improve one's safety. For instance: wait til the lights change or slip across the junction when there is no traffic on it?
Still, I think that a well-coordinated reporting campaign could have an impact in the right quarters. Any other supporters out there?

r400 03 Apr 2004 Oscar, I think that is a great idea. A concerted campaign of nationwide incident reporting just might cajole the police into actually enforcing traffic laws. When can we start ?!
